2024 Golden Globe Predictions by Faye Renee

BREAKING NEWS! We are excited to announce that the 81st Golden Globe Awards will be televised in 2024! This will be a night of glamour, talent, and awards to honor the best in entertainment! After the Pandemic and Hollywood Strike, movie-going and movie choices on the big screen seemed rather slim for a while but look out! In 2023, movies made a serious comeback!

CBS will Host this year's Golden Globe Awards with a live broadcast at 5 p.m. Pacific and 8 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, January 7th. The Golden Globe Awards show will also be streamed on Paramount and will follow a double header of NFL football. The Golden Globe Awards are viewed in 185 countries worldwide. At the time of this writing, no official host has been announced for the ceremony.

NEW CATEGORIES: two new categories have been added for Golden Globes' best performances.

First is the stand-up comedy on TV category, which is giving a "Chris Rock (Selective Outrage) and/or Wanda Skyes (I’m an Entertainer) Specials." Hmmm. I wonder how that one goes.  Wow!

And, second to none is the new Cinematic Box Office Achievement category. "It is fascinating to see the movies with the highest box office earnings being recognized, even though most moviegoers watch the movies they like regardless of who votes for them at the Globes.

Some of the highest-earning movies include Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, Tom Cruise's Dead Reckoning Part 1, and Super Mario Brothers. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to decide what to watch.

Choosing Winners this year will be extremely challenging. Perhaps the "favorites", of which there are plenty, will triumph, or maybe a top-dollar newcomer on the scene will take the Golden Global Prize! So many films in 2023 were excellent!

The Battle between A-Listers (Best Actor/Actress) is phenomenal this year: lead actors such as Robert DeNiro, Leo DiCaprio (Killers of the Flower Moon), Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), and Maestro (Bradley Cooper) are among the many contenders alongside Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers) as well as comedic wars between Barbie fame, Poor Things and Color Purple.

Will the Grand Coveted Prize of Best Picture (Drama) pit heavyweight contenders of emotionally charged performances in ensemble casts such as Killers of the Flower Moon against Oppenheimer, or will lesser-known masterpieces win?

Although the purpose of the HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) voting body is to reflect the perspectives of international journalists and photographers on global talent, at the end of the day, their votes are largely derived from their own judgment and preferences, so you will not know who will win a Golden Globe Award until the show itself airs on January 7th, 2024.

RECENT GOLDEN GLOBES BACKLASH/SCANDAL HISTORY

The HFPA--Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been under heavy fire and nearly gone due to a lack of diversity in recent years— oh yeah, it was discovered that out of 230 members, they had never had one black member. I wonder...

So Hollywood and the world backlashed, and rightfully so, and now they have a whole new mojo with a new contract, that promises black, brown, and LGBTQIA+ representation.

From the Headlines of Entertainment Online Magazine:

“The group behind the Golden Globes has substantially increased its international voting membership after a racial exclusion scandal rocked the organization. After the 2023 Golden Globes ceremony marked the show's return to network TV for the first time since 2021, the HFPA announced:

-215 new members joined the group's voting ranks, bringing the HFPA's total membership to 310. The HFPA's new breakdown is now:

  • 25 percent Latinx

  • 14 percent Asian

  • 10 percent Black

  • 9 percent Middle Eastern

  • 42 percent White,

... with "at least" 17 percent self-identifying as part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Can you say, “It’s about time!”  Thank you, Golden Globes for waking up!
